Everyone in the tree above is related. Starting at the root or base of the tree are the oldest known relatives of this family who were born slaves but lived to see emancipation. They were the first free members of the family. As you progress up the tree almost each generation is represented until you get to the color photos at the top of the tree which are the members of the youngest generation of this family. The members on the right branches of the tree are the youngest generation’s paternal or father’s line and the members on the left branches are their maternal or mother’s line. The members in the trunk of the tree are also are from the maternal line of this family. There is a rich history on both sides that include many wonderful stories that grew this family tree's branches all the way to the top of the tree with some great stories even all the way up there at the top. There have been many discoveries during the search in this family’s history some wonderful, some sad, some downright heartbreaking and some that make you want to shout for joy!
