African-American Family History was started by a group of concerned members from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints living in North Alabama. Realizing the unique challenges African-American genealogy brings we decided to reach out to the community at large to offer support for this great endeavor. We met often and decided the best way to reach people was to have a seminar that would help acquaint people with resources available in our area. But how were we going to be able to let people know what we were doing? That is when the African-American Family History site was born and as with most beginning projects it was quickly evident that we could do more than just support the folks in our locale. With a presence on the internet we could reach out to so many more! Our goal at African-American Family History is to educate, support, encourage and share knowledge and information with anyone involved in African-American genealogy.
